Description

Delicious and creamy French Silk Pie Bars with a buttery crust and chocolate filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 oz unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional garnish: chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, mix flour, softened butter, and sugar until a soft dough forms. Press the dough evenly into the bottom of a 9×9-inch baking pan.
  2. Bake for about 15–18 minutes, until lightly golden. Let the crust cool completely before adding the filling.
  3. Melt the unsweetened chocolate gently using a microwave or double boiler. Stir until smooth, then set aside to cool slightly.
  4. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together for several minutes until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
  5. Add the melted chocolate and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and glossy.
  6. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing for about 2–3 minutes after each addition. The mixture will gradually become thicker and incredibly silky.
  7. Spread the chocolate filling evenly over the cooled crust.
  8. Place the pan in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  9. In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form. Spread the whipped cream over the chilled chocolate layer.
  10. Sprinkle chocolate shavings on top if desired. Slice into squares and serve cold for the best texture.

Notes

  • This cooling step helps keep the layers clean and distinct.
  • The chocolate should be melted but not hot when added to the mixture.
  • Slow mixing is key to achieving the classic French silk texture.
