Description
A delicious pastry filled with savory ground beef and cheddar cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 package (about 17.3 oz) puff pastry sheets (2 sheets), thawed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Fresh thyme leaves (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Cook the Beef Filling: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent. Stir in minced garlic and cook until fragrant. Add ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks. Cook until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, salt, and pepper. Mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the mixture is well combined. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Prepare the Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a floured surface. Cut each sheet into desired portions (e.g., rectangles or squares).
- Assemble the Pies: Spoon a portion of the beef mixture onto half of each pastry cut-out. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the beef mixture. Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling and seal the edges with a fork. Place the assembled pies onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Egg Wash and Baking: Brush the tops of the pastry pies with the beaten egg for a golden finish. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
- Garnish and Serve: Optional: Garnish with fresh thyme leaves before serving. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- For extra flavor, consider adding herbs like rosemary or thyme to the beef mixture.
- Ensure the pastry is sealed well to prevent leaking during baking.
- Experiment with different cheeses for varied flavors, such as mozzarella or a smoky gouda.
- To save time, you can prepare the beef filling a day ahead and store it in the refrigerator.
