Ingredients

- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsulphured dark molasses
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with liners or grease it lightly.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
- In a large bowl, whisk together brown sugar, molasses, eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and stir gently until just combined—do not overmix.
- Divide the batter evenly into the muffin cups, filling each about 3/4 full.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the muffins cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
