Ingredients

- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 large eggs (room temperature)
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt until combined.
- Add applesauce and vegetable oil; crack in the eggs and mix until just combined.
- If using, fold in chopped nuts gently into the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth out the top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow cooling before slicing into squares.

- Store in an airtight container to keep the cake moist.
- Perfect with a dusting of powdered sugar on top.
