Description

A delicious and indulgent recipe for chocolate croissant dessert made with puff pastry and high-quality dark chocolate.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 200g high-quality dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt
  • Optional: sea salt flakes for garnish
  • Chocolate chips or chunks for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into squares or rectangles, depending on your preference.
  3. Chocolate Filling: In a bowl, mix chopped dark chocolate, melted butter, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Spoon the chocolate mixture onto each pastry piece, placing it in the center.
  4. Shape the Croissants: Fold the pastry over the chocolate filling to create a pocket, sealing the edges by pressing down gently with a fork.
  5. Egg Wash: In a small bowl, beat the egg with a splash of water. Brush the top of each pastry with the egg wash to enhance browning and shine.
  6. Topping: Sprinkle chocolate chips or chunks on top of the pastries. Optionally, sprinkle a few sea salt flakes for a sweet-salty flavor contrast.
  7. Bake: Place the stuffed pastries on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the pastries to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving. Serve warm for a melty, gooey chocolate experience.

Notes

  • To ensure a flaky texture, keep your puff pastry chilled until ready to use.
  • Experiment with different types of chocolate, such as milk or white, to vary the flavor.
  • For added decadence, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
