Description
A delicious and indulgent recipe for chocolate croissant dessert made with puff pastry and high-quality dark chocolate.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 200g high-quality dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
- Optional: sea salt flakes for garnish
- Chocolate chips or chunks for topping
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into squares or rectangles, depending on your preference.
- Chocolate Filling: In a bowl, mix chopped dark chocolate, melted butter, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Spoon the chocolate mixture onto each pastry piece, placing it in the center.
- Shape the Croissants: Fold the pastry over the chocolate filling to create a pocket, sealing the edges by pressing down gently with a fork.
- Egg Wash: In a small bowl, beat the egg with a splash of water. Brush the top of each pastry with the egg wash to enhance browning and shine.
- Topping: Sprinkle chocolate chips or chunks on top of the pastries. Optionally, sprinkle a few sea salt flakes for a sweet-salty flavor contrast.
- Bake: Place the stuffed pastries on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the pastries to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving. Serve warm for a melty, gooey chocolate experience.
Notes
- To ensure a flaky texture, keep your puff pastry chilled until ready to use.
- Experiment with different types of chocolate, such as milk or white, to vary the flavor.
- For added decadence, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
