Description

Delicious and crispy garlic mashed potato balls made from leftover mashed potatoes, cheese, and spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (preferably leftover)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)
  • Drizzle of creamy sauce (e.g., garlic aioli or ranch, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potato Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
  2. Shape the Balls: Take a small portion of the potato mixture and roll it into a ball approximately 1.5 inches in diameter. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
  3. Set Up Breading Station: Place flour in a shallow dish. Place beaten eggs in another shallow dish. Place breadcrumbs in a third shallow dish.
  4. Bread the Potato Balls: Roll each potato ball in flour, shaking off excess. Dip in beaten eggs, ensuring it’s fully coated. Roll in breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat with all balls.
  5. Fry the Potato Balls: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large, deep skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potato balls in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Use a slotted spoon to transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  6. Serve: Arrange on a serving platter. Drizzle with creamy sauce if desired. Garnish with chopped parsley.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add chopped chives or bacon bits to the potato mixture.
  • Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying; otherwise, the balls may become greasy.
  • These potato balls can be prepared in advance and reheated in the oven for 10 minutes at 350°F (175°C) before serving.
  • Experiment with different cheese varieties for unique flavor profiles.
