Description
A festive and vibrant zebra cake perfect for Halloween!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 small bottle orange food coloring
- 1 small bottle purple food coloring
- 1 small bottle black food coloring
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a bundt pan or a round cake pan.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add the vegetable oil and mix until combined. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Combine Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Divide Batter: Divide the batter evenly into four separate bowls. Leave one portion plain. Add orange food coloring to the second portion, purple to the third, and mix cocoa powder and black food coloring in the fourth until you reach desired color intensity.
- Create Zebra Pattern: In the prepared pan, spoon approximately 2 tablespoons of plain batter into the center. Top with 2 tablespoons of black batter, then orange, and finally purple, repeating this pattern until all the batter is used.
- Bake: Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature to achieve a smooth batter.
- For vibrant colors, adjust the amount of food coloring as needed.
- Use gel food coloring for a more intense hue without affecting batter consistency.
- When adding batter to the pan, work quickly to prevent colors from merging.
- To enhance flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of almond extract or orange zest.
